Key Takeaways
- Feeling personality types are the most attuned to energy. Diplomats in particular notice the mood of a room most readily, absorb other people’s states most deeply, and do the most to manage the energy around them.
- Negative energy registers more strongly than positive energy for every personality type. All 16 types say they pick up on negativity more easily and feel its effects more intensely, a bias that holds across every Role and Strategy.
- Thinking types guard their own energy, while Feeling types adapt theirs. Most Thinking personalities prefer to preserve their energy rather than match other people’s, and most Feeling types choose to meet others at their emotional level.
- Majorities of every personality type use energy to understand other people. Even the most skeptical types agree that interpreting energy plays a meaningful role in how they read the people in their lives.
- Most people like the kinds of people their energy attracts. Strong majorities of all 16 personality types approve of the company their vibe brings in – a rare point where everyone agrees.
Personality Influences How You Sense Vibes and Energy Matter More Than You Might Think
Few words have settled into everyday conversation quite like "vibes." People describe rooms, songs, coworkers, and entire cities by the energy they give off – and most of us adjust our behavior based on those impressions, often without thinking about it. How we sense, read, and share that energy depends a great deal on our personalities. Whether energy is something mystical or simply our brains reading subtle cues at high speed, it clearly shapes how we connect with others. It influences the moods we carry home, the people we trust, and the spaces where we feel at ease.
To find out how different personalities experience this invisible layer of social life, we created the "Vibes/Energy" survey, asking 20 questions that covered everything from noticing the mood of a room to cleansing rituals, negativity bias, and how much trust people place in their energy reads. Over 26,000 people responded, and this report lays out the results question by question. Along the way, it reveals which personalities feel the atmosphere most intensely, which ones guard their own energy most fiercely, and a few surprising points where all 16 types agree.
A note on this survey: Our respondents are people who visited our website – not a balanced mix of the wider population. All results are self-reported, and personality is just one of many factors (alongside age, culture, and more) that shape responses. Think of what follows as a starting point for reflection, not a scientific conclusion.
The Big Picture of Sensitivity, Negativity, and Trust
The clearest pattern in the data is a sensitivity gradient. Feeling personality types – and Diplomats above all – top nearly every measure of energy perception. They notice the mood of a room most readily, absorb other people’s states most deeply, and describe themselves as unusually receptive compared to others. Thinking types, particularly Introverted ones, consistently anchor the other end of the chart. Yet the floors are telling. Even the most skeptical personalities report noticing a room’s energy at rates near 70%, which suggests everyone has this sense – some types simply pay more attention to it.
A second pattern cuts across every personality type without exception – negativity wins. All 16 types say they pick up on negative energy more easily than positive energy, and all 16 say negative energy affects them more intensely. Introverted types show the sharpest skew in detection, while Introverted Feeling types report the heaviest impact. But no Role or Strategy escapes the pattern entirely. Bad vibes, in short, get everyone’s attention.
How people respond to all this energy is where personalities truly part ways. Most Feeling types adjust to match the energy around them, treating their own mood as something flexible in service of connection. Thinking types generally prefer to preserve their own energy and let the room adjust instead. Cleansing habits follow the same divide – Diplomats are far more likely to clear their spaces and themselves of unwanted energy, usually through quiet internal methods like mindfulness rather than external rituals. Meanwhile, a different trait governs the energy people send out – with one narrow exception, Extraverted types hear about their own vibe more often than Introverts do, likely because they simply put more of it on display.
Perhaps the most surprising thread is how seriously people take this sense once they tune in to it. A majority of every type describes their reaction to energy as psychological rather than physical or spiritual, which may make the concept easier for rational minds to accept. Majorities of all 16 personality types treat interpreting energy as central to reading other people, and just as many rate those reads on par with sight, touch, and sound. Trust is where caution reappears – only the most intuitive Diplomat personalities place a lot of confidence in their interpretations, while everyone else double-checks their reads against harder evidence.
How Personality Types Sense and Shape the Energy Around Them
Most people say they can feel the vibe of a room the moment they walk in – but personality shapes how strongly that awareness registers and what people do about it. Across the four questions in this group, Feeling personality types, and Diplomats in particular, report the sharpest sensitivity to ambient energy. They are also the most deliberate about projecting a certain mood and the most likely to have rituals for clearing unwanted energy from their spaces and themselves. Thinking types, especially those who are also Introverted, tend to hang back on all four counts – though, as we’ll see, even most of them admit that a room’s energy doesn’t escape their notice.
Noticing the Energy of a Room
Agreement with "Do you notice the energy of a room when you walk in?"
| Personality type | Agreement |
|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 81.21% |
| INTP (Logician) | 77.87% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 91.03% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 87.91% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 95.64% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 92.83% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 97.75% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 95.75% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 76.51% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 90.21% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 89.54% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 95.43% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 69.27% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 86.18% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 88.92% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 93.08% |
If there’s one thing nearly everyone agrees on, it’s this – rooms have a feel to them. Every single personality type posted a solid majority here, and ENFJ personalities (Protagonists) led the way, with 98% saying they notice the energy of a room when they walk in. ENFP personalities (Campaigners) followed closely at 96%, with INFJ personalities (Advocates) and ESFJ personalities (Consuls) right behind them. It’s no coincidence that Feeling types dominate the top of this list. Their natural attunement to interpersonal dynamics seems to translate directly into a sense for the collective mood of a space.
At the other end sit the Introverted Thinking types. ISTP personalities (Virtuosos) were the least likely to say they notice a room’s energy, at 69%, with ISTJ personalities (Logisticians) and INTP personalities (Logicians) not far above them. But the real story here may be how high even the low end is. When roughly seven in ten of the most skeptical, fact-focused personalities say they notice a room’s energy, it suggests this isn’t a fringe experience. Reading the atmosphere of a space appears to be close to a universal human habit – types simply differ in how prominently it features in their awareness.
Consciously Projecting a Certain Energy
Agreement with "How often do you make a conscious effort to put out a certain kind of energy?"
| Personality type | Often | Sometimes | Rarely | Never |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 21.41% | 40.84% | 27.43% | 10.32% |
| INTP (Logician) | 20.37% | 43.26% | 26.39% | 9.97% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 44.35% | 39.79% | 12.48% | 3.38% |

| INFP (Mediator) | 39.53% | 44.49% | 13.15% | 2.83% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 58.36% | 34.57% | 5.88% | 1.19% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 55.6% | 34.86% | 7.5% | 2.03% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 19.15% | 42.02% | 27.84% | 10.99% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 32.28% | 47.02% | 17.78% | 2.92% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 41.18% | 42.48% | 15.03% | 1.31% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 51.95% | 37.54% | 9.01% | 1.5% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 16.28% | 40.63% | 30.18% | 12.91% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 27.53% | 47.77% | 19.43% | 5.26% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 37.12% | 38.96% | 15.64% | 8.28% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 44.22% | 39.33% | 11.05% | 5.4% |
Noticing energy is one thing – deliberately putting it out is another. Here, the gap between personality types widens considerably. ENFJs were again the standouts, with 58% saying they often make a conscious effort to put out a certain kind of energy. ENFPs (56%) and ESFJs (52%) were the only other types where a majority chose "often." These Extraverted Feeling personalities tend to see social atmospheres as something they can actively shape, so it makes sense that they treat their own presence as a tool for setting the tone.
Introverted Thinking types were far less intentional about it. Just 16% of ISTPs said they often curate the energy they give off, and ISTJs, INTJ personalities (Architects), and INTPs landed only slightly higher. That said, outright refusal was rare across the board – even among ISTPs, only 13% said they never make an effort to shape the energy they put out. For most personalities, "sometimes" was a popular middle ground, suggesting that nearly everyone adjusts their vibe on occasion, even if only certain types treat it as a daily practice.
Cleansing Personal Spaces of Energy
Agreement with "Do you do anything to clear/cleanse your space of certain kinds of energy?"
| Personality type | Yes, internally (e.g., mindfulness, prayers, etc.) | Yes, externally (e.g., say a blessing, light a candle, etc.) | No |
|---|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 28.1% | 15.23% | 56.67% |
| INTP (Logician) | 19.4% | 14.57% | 66.03% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 32.79% | 22.65% | 44.56% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 22.11% | 17.85% | 60.04% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 40.19% | 25.54% | 34.27% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 32.73% | 23.2% | 44.07% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 43.79% | 27.21% | 29% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 32.3% | 26.6% | 41.1% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 22.02% | 14.56% | 63.41% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 31.71% | 19.68% | 48.6% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 30.72% | 16.34% | 52.94% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 38.86% | 21.69% | 39.46% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 15.14% | 9.05% | 75.8% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 26.22% | 15.14% | 58.64% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 18.52% | 13.89% | 67.59% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 28.28% | 19.79% | 51.93% |
This question marks a clear dividing line. While nearly everyone notices energy, far fewer take steps to clear it from their surroundings. ISTPs were the most likely to skip such practices entirely, with 76% saying they do nothing to cleanse their space of certain kinds of energy, followed by ESTP personalities (Entrepreneurs) at 68% and INTPs at 66%. For these grounded, pragmatic personalities, the idea of cleansing a room’s energy may simply feel unnecessary – or too abstract to act on.
Diplomats told a different story. ENFJs were the most active space-cleansers of all personality types, with 44% using internal methods like mindfulness or prayer and another 27% turning to external rituals such as saying a blessing or lighting a candle. INFJs showed a similar pattern. Notably, internal approaches outpaced external ones for every single type, hinting that for most people, clearing a space is less about ceremony and more about resetting their own state of mind within it.
Cleansing Oneself of Energy
Agreement with "Do you do anything to clear/cleanse yourself of certain kinds of energy?"
| Personality type | Yes, internally (e.g., mindfulness, prayers, etc.) | Yes, externally (e.g., say a blessing, light a candle, etc.) | No |
|---|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 45.81% | 8.57% | 45.62% |
| INTP (Logician) | 34.5% | 9.32% | 56.18% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 53.78% | 11.26% | 34.96% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 37.84% | 11.6% | 50.56% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 64.84% | 12.06% | 23.11% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 53.19% | 12.92% | 33.89% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 66% | 15.6% | 18.39% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 53.15% | 16.84% | 30.01% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 39.32% | 7.65% | 53.02% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 54.89% | 9.17% | 35.94% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 51.66% | 9.93% | 38.41% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 57.23% | 14.76% | 28.01% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 26.57% | 7.92% | 65.51% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 39.34% | 10.14% | 50.51% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 31.48% | 11.42% | 57.1% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 44.07% | 12.63% | 43.3% |
When the target shifts from the room to the self, participation jumps across the board. Every personality type was more likely to cleanse themselves of unwanted energy than to cleanse their space. ENFJs were once again the most dedicated cleansers, with 66% saying they use internal methods to clear themselves of unwanted energy, and INFJs followed closely at 65%. This fits the broader pattern – the types most affected by ambient moods appear to be the ones who have developed the most habits for shaking those moods off.
Even so, the familiar holdouts remained. A majority of ISTPs (66%) and INTPs (56%) said they do nothing to clear themselves of certain kinds of energy, and ISTJs were close behind. One detail worth noting is how internal the whole practice is – external rituals never rose above 17% for any type on this question, a lower ceiling than for space-cleansing. It seems that when people work on their own energy, they overwhelmingly reach for quiet, inward tools like reflection and mindfulness rather than candles or blessings.
Which Personality Types Are Most in Tune with Other People’s Energy?
Feeling personality types report the strongest attunement to other people’s energy, with ENFJs and ENFPs leading the pack. But the most striking finding in this group is one all 16 types share – bad energy is easier to spot and harder to shake, no matter who you ask. Where types truly part ways is in how they respond. Thinking types tend to guard their own energy against the moods around them, while most Feeling types adjust to meet other people where they are. The four questions below trace that pattern from perception to reaction.
Attunement to Other People’s Energy
Agreement with "How in tune with other people’s energy are you?"
| Personality type | Very | Somewhat | Not at all |
|---|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 19.8% | 56.77% | 23.43% |
| INTP (Logician) | 15.92% | 63.26% | 20.82% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 40.23% | 52.13% | 7.64% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 31.33% | 59.1% | 9.56% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 57.61% | 39.51% | 2.88% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 45.83% | 49.78% | 4.39% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 66.69% | 32.06% | 1.26% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 60.03% | 38.38% | 1.59% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 19.96% | 59.89% | 20.14% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 40.27% | 54.01% | 5.72% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 24.84% | 66.67% | 8.5% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 51.05% | 46.55% | 2.4% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 12.2% | 64.63% | 23.17% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 31.85% | 60.95% | 7.2% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 31.38% | 59.38% | 9.23% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 52.82% | 44.36% | 2.82% |
Feeling types once again claim the top of the chart. ENFJs sit at the front, with 67% describing themselves as very in tune with other people’s energy, followed by ENFPs at 60% and INFJs at 58%. ESFP personalities (Entertainers) also cross the halfway mark, rounding out the upper tier. For these warm, empathetic types, sensing what other people are feeling seems less like a skill and more like a default setting – one that runs constantly in the background of their social lives.
Thinking types, especially Introverted ones, paint a more muted picture. Just 12% of ISTPs and 16% of INTPs consider themselves very attuned to other people’s energy. Still, it would be a mistake to call these types oblivious. “Somewhat” was by far their most common answer, and fewer than a quarter of even the least attuned types said they are not in tune at all. The realistic takeaway is that these personalities register other people’s energy at a lower volume – the signal comes through, but it rarely dominates their attention the way it can for Feeling types.
Negative vs. Positive Energy Detection
Agreement with "Do you pick up on negative or positive energy more easily?"
| Personality type | Negative | Positive |
|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 80.88% | 19.12% |
| INTP (Logician) | 81.71% | 18.29% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 62.44% | 37.56% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 65.82% | 34.18% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 77.63% | 22.37% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 78.47% | 21.53% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 56.61% | 43.39% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 60.61% | 39.39% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 76.73% | 23.27% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 73.33% | 26.67% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 64.05% | 35.95% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 58.13% | 41.87% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 77.04% | 22.96% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 72.31% | 27.69% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 59.51% | 40.49% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 54.64% | 45.36% |
Here, all 16 types land on the same side of the line – negative energy is easier to detect than positive energy. The effect is strongest among Introverted types. INTPs (82%) and INTJs (81%) were the most likely to say they pick up on negative energy more easily, and every Introverted type came in above 72%. This fits what we know about Introverted personalities more broadly – their sensitivity to environmental cues may make tension, discomfort, and unease especially hard to ignore.
Interestingly, this question divides Introverted and Extraverted personalities more sharply than Thinking and Feeling ones. Extraverted types reported a far more balanced radar, with ESFPs (45%) and ENFJs (43%) coming closest to picking up positive energy as readily as negative. One likely explanation is that Extraverts actively feed off their surroundings, which may prime them to notice enthusiasm and good moods as sources of fuel. Introverts, who manage their energy more carefully, may be quicker to flag anything that threatens to drain it.
Intensity of Negative vs. Positive Energy
Agreement with "What kind of energy affects you more intensely?"
| Personality type | Negative | Positive |
|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 76.45% | 23.55% |
| INTP (Logician) | 79.54% | 20.46% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 62.89% | 37.11% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 63.54% | 36.46% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 85.28% | 14.72% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 85.45% | 14.55% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 71.68% | 28.32% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 73.21% | 26.79% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 80.11% | 19.89% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 86.5% | 13.5% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 70.59% | 29.41% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 75.68% | 24.32% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 76.82% | 23.18% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 84.06% | 15.94% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 63.19% | 36.81% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 71.03% | 28.97% |
Detection is one thing – impact is another. When asked which kind of energy affects them more intensely, respondents leaned even harder toward the negative. ISFJ personalities (Defenders) were the most likely to say negative energy affects them more intensely, at 87%, with INFP personalities (Mediators) at 85%, INFJs at 85%, and ISFP personalities (Adventurers) close behind. It’s telling that Introverted Feeling types cluster at the top here. These sensitive personalities don’t just notice bad vibes – they tend to absorb them, sometimes carrying another person’s tension long after the encounter ends.
Even the most resilient types couldn’t escape the pattern. ENTJ personalities (Commanders), ENTP personalities (Debaters), and ESTPs posted the lowest numbers, yet roughly 63% of each still said negative energy hits harder. That consistency across every Role and Strategy suggests something close to a universal negativity bias in how people process ambient moods. A bad atmosphere, it seems, demands a response in a way that a good one simply doesn’t – personality just determines how deeply the impact is felt.
Matching vs. Preserving Energy
Agreement with "Do you usually try to match other people’s energy or preserve your own?"
| Personality type | Match | Preserve |
|---|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 26.62% | 73.38% |
| INTP (Logician) | 39.55% | 60.45% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 38.09% | 61.91% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 46.95% | 53.05% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 51.47% | 48.53% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 56.44% | 43.56% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 53.83% | 46.17% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 61.55% | 38.45% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 33.75% | 66.25% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 48.72% | 51.28% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 49.02% | 50.98% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 55.56% | 44.44% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 42.36% | 57.64% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 54.99% | 45.01% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 49.08% | 50.92% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 62.05% | 37.95% |
Faced with someone else’s energy, do people adapt or hold their ground? The answer splits cleanly between Feeling and Thinking personalities. Most Feeling types choose to match other people’s energy, led by ESFPs and ENFPs at 62% each, with INFPs, ESFJs, and ENFJs following. For these harmony-minded personalities, meeting people at their emotional level is a natural way to build connection – mirroring a friend’s excitement or softening their own mood to comfort someone who’s struggling.
Thinking types take the opposite approach. INTJs are the most protective of all personality types, with 73% preferring to preserve their own energy, and ISTJs follow at 66%. ESTJ personalities (Executives) and ESTPs split almost evenly, showing that even outgoing Thinking types feel the pull toward self-preservation. The lone Feeling exception is ISFJs, who narrowly favor preserving their own energy at 51% – perhaps a reflection of how much these dutiful types already give to others in other ways. On the whole, this question captures a real fork in social strategy – adjust to the room, or stay steady and let the room adjust to you.
Source, Familiarity, and Distance in Energy Perception
So far, we’ve seen who notices energy and who feels it most intensely. This group of questions digs into the mechanics of that perception. Can people identify where a vibe is coming from? Do they feel it from everyone, or only from those closest to them? And does someone need to be physically present for their energy to register? The answers reveal some consistent splits. Introverted personalities with the Thinking trait tend to describe energy perception as something vague – they often can’t name its source – while grounded Observant and Thinking types are the most likely to say they need to share a room with someone to feel anything at all. Feeling types, and Diplomats especially, describe a clearer, wider-reaching sense that doesn’t depend on distance or familiarity.
Awareness of the Energy’s Source
Agreement with "Are you often unaware of the source of the energy that you sense?"
| Personality type | Agreement |
|---|---|
| INTJ (Architect) | 40.69% |
| INTP (Logician) | 49.63% |
| ENTJ (Commander) | 27.33% |
| ENTP (Debater) | 38.33% |
| INFJ (Advocate) | 32.96% |
| INFP (Mediator) | 42.26% |
| ENFJ (Protagonist) | 28.68% |
| ENFP (Campaigner) | 35.84% |
| ISTJ (Logistician) | 44.68% |
| ISFJ (Defender) | 36.3% |
| ESTJ (Executive) | 33.33% |
| ESFJ (Consul) | 28.61% |
| ISTP (Virtuoso) | 54.68% |
| ISFP (Adventurer) | 44.5% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 42.33% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 38.05% |
Sensing energy and knowing where it comes from turn out to be two different abilities. ISTPs, the personality type least likely to notice a room’s energy in the first place, were the most likely to say they often can’t pinpoint the source of the energy they do sense, at 55%. INTPs followed at 50%, with ISTJs and ISFPs close behind. For these types, energy seems to arrive as a diffuse impression – a general sense that something is off, without a clear read on why or from whom.
The pattern flips at the other end of the scale. Only 29% of ENFJs said they’re often unaware of the source of the energy they sense – fitting, given that they also reported the strongest attunement to other people’s energy. Interestingly, ENTJs came in even lower, at 27%, despite describing only moderate attunement overall. What these two personality types share isn’t sensitivity but Extraversion and decisiveness. Both engage directly and actively with the people around them, which may make it easier to trace a mood back to its origin. Introverted types generally reported more uncertainty than their Extraverted counterparts – perhaps observing from a distance makes the source harder to identify.

Does relationship closeness change how strongly someone’s energy comes through? For most personality types, the answer is yes – but not by an overwhelming margin. ENFJs were the most likely to say they feel everyone’s energy equally, regardless of relationship, at 55%, with ESFPs just behind at 53%. These were the only two types where a majority agreed. Both share the Extraverted and Feeling traits and engage warmly with strangers and friends alike, so it tracks that their emotional radar wouldn’t discriminate much based on familiarity.
At the other end, only 32% of ISTPs and 33% of INTPs said they feel everyone’s energy equally. For most Thinking types, it seems, energy from close relationships registers far more strongly than energy from acquaintances or strangers. This makes intuitive sense – these selective personalities invest deeply in a small circle, and their attention appears to follow the same pattern. It’s worth noting that no type fell below roughly a third in agreement, though. Even the most socially selective personalities acknowledge that a stranger’s mood can sometimes land just as hard as a loved one’s.

Can you feel someone’s energy through a phone call, a text message, or simple distance? Here, Thinking and Observant types tend to draw a firmer boundary. ISTPs were the most likely to say they usually need to be in the same room with someone to feel their energy, at 60%, followed by ISTJs and INTPs at 56% each. Slim majorities of ESTJs and ESTPs agreed as well. For these grounded personalities, energy seems to be something read from concrete, in-person cues – body language, tone of voice, facial expressions – rather than something sensed remotely.
Diplomats reported a longer perceptual range. Just 37% of ENFJs said they usually need to be in the same room to feel someone’s energy, the lowest figure of any type, with INFJs and ENFPs not far above them. These personalities apparently pick up on mood through channels that don’t require proximity – the wording of a message, a pause in conversation, or simply an intuitive sense of how a distant loved one is doing. Whether that reflects genuine long-range sensitivity or a vivid imagination filling in the gaps, the survey can’t say. What’s clear is that for Feeling types, energy perception feels far less bound to the physical room they happen to be standing in.
When Other People’s Energy Becomes Your Own
For most Feeling personality types, other people’s energy isn’t just background noise – it actively reshapes their own inner state. Every Feeling type posted a clear majority on the question of whether others’ energy has a major effect on theirs, while several Thinking types hovered near or below the halfway mark. The second question in this group goes a step further, asking whether people look to others’ energy first when trying to explain their own mood. Here the split grows even sharper – Diplomats often start their self-analysis with the people around them, while Thinking types overwhelmingly look elsewhere for answers.

| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 51.54% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 77.44% |
This question captures the culmination of everything the survey has traced so far. The personalities that notice energy most readily and absorb negativity most deeply also report that other people’s energy substantially rewrites their own. INFPs led, with 86% saying the energy of others has a major effect on their own energy, and ENFPs and INFJs came close behind. In fact, every Feeling type landed above 72% – a remarkably consistent band that includes quieter types like ISFJs and ISFPs alongside their more outgoing counterparts. For these empathetic personalities, energy seems to be genuinely contagious. A tense coworker or an upbeat friend doesn’t just register – they change how the day feels from the inside.
Thinking types describe far more insulation. INTJs and ENTJs were the least affected, both landing around 44%, and ISTJs joined them below the halfway mark. Yet most Thinking personalities still tipped slightly past the midpoint, with ENTPs and ESTJs posting modest majorities. That nuance matters. Even types who pride themselves on rational self-containment acknowledge that the moods around them exert real pull. The difference between the two camps isn’t whether other people’s energy matters – it’s whether that energy acts as a gentle nudge or a full current that carries them along.

When people sit down to figure out why they feel the way they do, where do they look first? For Diplomats, the answer is often outward. INFJs were the most likely to say they consider the energy of others first when analyzing their own mood, at 56%, followed by INFPs at 55%, and ENFPs and ENFJs posted slim majorities as well – making Diplomats the only Role where most types start their mood analysis with other people’s energy. This tracks with how these personalities experience emotion in the first place. If your inner state routinely mirrors the people around you, checking their energy first is simply good detective work.
Thinking types took the opposite approach almost uniformly. Fewer than a quarter of ISTJs and INTJs (24% each) said they consider others’ energy first, and ISTPs barely edged above them. What stands out is the gap between feeling an effect and crediting it. INTPs, for example, mostly agreed that others’ energy shapes their own, yet only 28% treat it as the starting point when analyzing a mood. These logic-driven personalities seem to reach first for internal or situational explanations – lack of sleep, a stressful deadline, a skipped meal – before considering that they may have caught someone else’s mood. Whether that reflects sharper self-knowledge or a blind spot is a question the data leaves open.
The Energy You Give Off and Who It Attracts
The final two questions flip the perspective – instead of asking how people receive energy, they ask what people send out into the world. Here, the survey’s usual dividing lines shift. Getting feedback about your energy turns out to be less about the Feeling trait and more about Extraversion – the personality types who engage most visibly with the world are the ones who hear about their vibe most often. And when it comes to the people that energy draws in, the results are surprisingly upbeat. Large majorities of every single type say they like the company their energy attracts, suggesting that whatever people are putting out there, it’s mostly bringing the right crowd back.
Hearing About Your Energy from Others

| ISFP (Adventurer) | 32.08% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 49.38% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 58.51% |
This is the first question in the survey where being Extraverted clearly outweighs being a Feeling type. ENFJs led once again, with 68% saying other people often tell them about the energy they give off, but the rest of the top tier tells the real story – ENFPs (64%) and ENTJs (61%) followed, and with one narrow exception, every Extraverted type outranked every Introverted type. Even ENTJs – hardly the warmest personalities on the chart – hear about their energy more often than any Introvert does. The pattern makes sense. Extraverted personalities engage openly and often, giving other people plenty of material to comment on. You can’t tell someone about the energy they give off if they rarely put it on display.
Introverts, by contrast, seem to fly under the radar. ISTJs were the least likely to hear about their energy from others, at 27%, with ISTPs and ISFPs just above them. Perhaps most telling, even INFJs – among the most energy-attuned types in this entire survey – reached only 44% on this question. These reserved personalities may sense everyone else’s vibe with remarkable clarity, but their own energy apparently draws less commentary. That gap hints at something worth noting – the feedback people receive about their energy may reflect how visible they are more than how strong or distinctive their presence actually is. A quiet person’s energy is still there – others just mention it less.

| ISFP (Adventurer) | 82.58% |
| ESTP (Entrepreneur) | 89.78% |
| ESFP (Entertainer) | 91.49% |
After a survey full of sharp divides, this question delivers a rare moment of consensus. Every one of the 16 types posted a strong majority, meaning that most people – regardless of personality – approve of the company their energy brings in. ESFJs and ENFJs led, with 92% of each saying they like the kinds of people their energy attracts, and every Extraverted type landed above 86%. For these socially fluent personalities, the finding fits neatly – they invest heavily in shaping their presence, and they seem pleased with the returns. The people they draw in are, by and large, people they want around.
The lowest scores belong to the Introverted Thinking types, but "low" is relative here. INTJs came in last, with 74% saying they like who their energy attracts, and ISTPs and INTPs landed in nearly the same spot – which still means roughly three in four are happy with who their energy attracts. That’s a striking result for personalities who spent most of this survey expressing skepticism about energy as a concept. Whether or not they believe in vibes, the vibes appear to be working. One reasonable reading is that personal energy acts as a natural social filter – authenticity tends to attract compatible people, and even the types least interested in curating their presence end up surrounded by others who appreciate them as they are.
Trusting Energy as a Way of Understanding Others
How much weight do people actually give this sixth sense? Quite a lot, as it turns out – enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with what they can see and hear. The five questions in this final group explore the intensity of that perception, the form it takes, and the trust people place in it. The now-familiar divide holds – Diplomats describe an intense, deeply trusted sense that shapes their view of everyone they meet, while Thinking types treat their impressions with more caution. Yet even the skeptics rarely dismiss energy outright – they simply file it under psychology rather than mysticism.

| ESFP (Entertainer) | 48.2% | 45.1% | 6.7% |
When asked to compare themselves to other people, Diplomats confidently claim the more sensitive end of the spectrum. INFJs and ENFJs were the most likely to say they feel the energy of their environment more intensely than others, at 67% each, with ENFPs following at 64%. A majority of INFPs agreed as well. This self-assessment lines up neatly with everything these types reported earlier in the survey – they notice ambient moods more readily, absorb them more deeply, and let them shape their own state more than any other personalities.
Thinking types, particularly Introverted ones, tend to place themselves at or below average. Only 20% of ISTPs said they feel environmental energy more intensely than most, and 29% – the highest figure of any type – said they feel it less. ISTJs, INTPs, and INTJs followed a similar pattern, with “about the same” serving as their most common answer. It’s worth remembering that this question captures self-perception, not actual sensitivity. Still, the consistency is hard to ignore – the types who report the strongest reactions to energy also see themselves as unusually receptive, while the more skeptical types view their own radar as ordinary or muted.
Physical, Psychological, or Spiritual Reactions
Agreement with "Do you think your reaction to the energy around you is more physical, psychological, or spiritual?"

| ESFP (Entertainer) | 24.42% | 60.41% | 15.17% |
Whatever energy is, most people locate it firmly in the mind. Every single personality type chose “psychological” as the most fitting description of their reaction to the energy around them, and Analysts did so most emphatically. INTJs led, with 79% describing their reaction to energy as psychological, and INTPs came close behind at 78%. For these rational personalities, calling it psychology keeps the whole idea on solid ground – reading energy becomes a matter of subconscious pattern recognition rather than anything supernatural.
The minority answers reveal an interesting split between Intuitive and Observant personalities. Diplomats were the most likely to call their reaction spiritual, with ENFPs and ENFJs at the top (24% each) and INFJs and INFPs just behind. Explorers, by contrast, leaned physical more than any other Role – 31% of ESTPs described their reaction in bodily terms, the highest of any type. That fits these hands-on personalities, who tend to process the world through direct, tangible experience. Where a Diplomat might sense a presence and an Analyst might register a subtle shift in mood, an Explorer feels it in their gut.

Here lies one of the survey’s most revealing findings – a majority of every one of the 16 types says interpreting energy is a significant part of how they understand other people. Diplomats reached near-total agreement, with ENFJs at 91% and INFJs at 90%. For these Intuitive, empathetic personalities, reading someone’s energy isn’t an occasional trick – it appears to be a core channel through which they form impressions, build trust, and decide how to respond to the people in their lives.
What makes this result remarkable is the floor, not the ceiling. Even ISTPs – the most consistently skeptical type throughout this survey – posted a 56% majority, and ISTJs followed at 60%. INTJs and INTPs landed together at 65%. These are personalities who prefer verifiable facts and concrete evidence, yet most of them still admit that something as intangible as energy shapes their understanding of others. Taken alongside the previous question, a coherent picture emerges. People across every type rely on energy reads, but they explain that reliance differently – as intuition, as psychology, or simply as picking up on cues too subtle to name.

Using energy to read people is one thing – trusting the results is another. Only three personality types put “a lot” of trust in their energy interpretations at majority rates – ENFJs at 56%, ENFPs at 52%, and INFJs at 52%. This tracks with what we know about Diplomats, who are more likely than any other Role to trust their gut feelings. When your intuitive reads have proven reliable over a lifetime, confidence in them compounds naturally.
Most other types hedge their bets. “Some” trust was the most common answer for the majority of personalities, suggesting that energy reads typically function as a first impression to be verified rather than a final verdict. The Introverted Thinking types were the most guarded of all – just 21% of ISTPs place a lot of trust in their interpretations, while 32% place little. Notably, even among these skeptics, outright distrust never became the majority position. The overall pattern points to a kind of practical calibration – nearly everyone consults their energy reads, but only the most intuitively confident types treat them as dependable on their own.
Energy vs. Conventional Senses
Agreement with "How do you value your interpretation of energy compared to more conventional physical indicators (e.g., sight, touch, sound)?"
| Personality type | Energy is more important | Energy is equally important | Energy is less important |

| ESFP (Entertainer) | 19.12% | 68.22% | 12.66% |
The survey’s final question asked people to weigh their energy interpretations against conventional physical indicators like sight, touch, and sound – and the answer was surprisingly egalitarian. A majority of every single type said energy is equally important, led by ENFJs at 72% and INFPs at 71%. Even among Diplomats, few were willing to rank energy above their ordinary senses – INFJs topped that answer at just 23%. Rather than replacing what they see and hear, energy seems to serve as a parallel data stream that most people read alongside the physical evidence.
The skeptical minority is concentrated exactly where you’d expect. ISTPs were the most likely to rank energy below conventional indicators, at 37%, with ISTJs at 34%. Yet flip those numbers around, and the more telling story appears. Roughly two thirds of even the most evidence-driven personalities give their energy reads equal or greater standing than their five senses – a quiet endorsement from the survey’s toughest audience.
How Personality Shapes the Energy You Sense and Share
Taken together, the survey tells a consistent story. Personality doesn’t determine whether someone senses energy – it determines how loudly the signal comes through, what they do with it, and how much they trust it. Feeling types experience energy as a vivid, contagious force that they actively read, absorb, and manage. Thinking types experience the same signal at a lower volume and hold it at arm’s length, preferring to verify before believing. Between those poles, every type is working with the same basic sense.
The finding that unites everyone is negativity’s pull – every one of the 16 types detects unpleasant energy faster and feels it harder, without a single exception. Pair that with the fact that majorities of every type rely on energy to understand other people, and a picture emerges of a shared human radar tuned, above all, to trouble. Even the most evidence-minded personalities admit that something intangible shapes their read on the people around them.
There is a hopeful note buried in all of this. Strong majorities of every single type say they like the kinds of people their energy attracts, and that satisfaction crosses every personality line. Whatever we’re each putting out into the world, it seems to be drawing in company we genuinely want. Understanding how your personality colors this sense won’t make the bad vibes disappear, but it can help you recognize when a mood is truly yours – and when you’ve simply picked it up along the way.
