ESFP Personality (“The Entertainer”)

I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you surely don’t deserve me at my best.

Marilyn Monroe

If anyone is to be found spontaneously breaking into song and dance, it is the ESFP personality type. ESFPs get caught up in the excitement of the moment, and want everyone else to feel that way, too. No other personality type is as generous with their time and energy as ESFPs when it comes to encouraging others, and no other personality type does it with such irresistible style.

We Are All of Us Stars...

Born entertainers, ESFPs love the spotlight, but all the world’s a stage. Many famous people with the ESFP personality type are indeed actors, but they love putting on a show for their friends too, chatting with a unique and earthy wit, soaking up attention and making every outing feel a bit like a party. Utterly social, ESFPs enjoy the simplest things, and there’s no greater joy for them than just having fun with a good group of friends.

It’s not just talk either – ESFPs have the strongest aesthetic sense of any personality type. From grooming and outfits to a well-appointed home, ESFP personalities have an eye for fashion. Knowing what’s attractive the moment they see it, ESFPs aren’t afraid to change their surroundings to reflect their personal style. ESFPs are naturally curious, exploring new designs and styles with ease.

Though it may not always seem like it, ESFPs know that it’s not all about them – they are observant, and very sensitive to others’ emotions. People with this personality type are often the first to help someone talk out a challenging problem, happily providing emotional support and practical advice. However, if the problem is about them, ESFPs are more likely to avoid a conflict altogether than to address it head-on. ESFPs usually love a little drama and passion, but not so much when they are the focus of the criticisms it can bring.

...And We Deserve to Twinkle

The biggest challenge ESFPs face is that they are often so focused on immediate pleasures that they neglect the duties and responsibilities that make those luxuries possible. Complex analysis, repetitive tasks, and matching statistics to real consequences are not easy activities for ESFPs. They’d rather rely on luck or opportunity, or simply ask for help from their extensive circle of friends. It is important for ESFPs to challenge themselves to keep track of long-term things like their retirement plans or sugar intake – there won’t always be someone else around who can help to keep an eye on these things.

ESFPs recognize value and quality, which on its own is a fine trait. In combination with their tendency to be poor planners though, this can cause them to live beyond their means, and credit cards are especially dangerous. More focused on leaping at opportunities than in planning out long-term goals, ESFPs may find that their inattentiveness has made some activities unaffordable.

There’s nothing that makes ESFPs feel quite as unhappy as realizing that they are boxed in by circumstance, unable to join their friends.

ESFPs are welcome wherever there’s a need for laughter, playfulness, and a volunteer to try something new and fun – and there’s no greater joy for ESFP personalities than to bring everyone else along for the ride. ESFPs can chat for hours, sometimes about anything but the topic they meant to talk about, and share their loved ones’ emotions through good times and bad. If they can just remember to keep their ducks in a row, they’ll always be ready to dive into all the new and exciting things the world has to offer, friends in tow.

I completely agree with everything, but sometimes my personality gets on my nerves. My social skills come off as too much, or sometimes every flirty. and one thing they didn't mention is my lovingness. I am one who values love and being loved, and sometimes just needs to physically show it: like giving someone a hug. And sometimes I hate how I can't commit; like how I was thinking about going into the medical field; I just don't know if I could do it, especially because of the tons of schooling. I am one who wants to have my life as my main focus not my job. I want my life to reflect me.. but in this society the best way to get a job that pays enough to fulfill my adventerous needs is something that will take up most of my life. I don't doubt myself in getting though school, I doubt myself in loving my job. Hopefully I will find my path, take it and never look back.

Hannah I have the same problem! People think I'm flirting and I get quite upset if insinuated as I really don't mean it like that. Hope you find your path.

^ Me as well! So far I love medical 'stuff' but I'm worried I won't later on... I have been told that I seem VERY flirticious and it's not much fun being an ESFP sometimes. I would say I wish I could change my personality but, I know if I had the choice I would overthink it and chicken out. Love the ESFP that has problems that supposedly hates conflict

Wow, you're describing my life to a T!!! I gave up the pre-med thing my freshman year of college because I just did not have the discipline to get through all of the tedious work. Not to mention I love to enjoy the now and don't want to waste my young years crying over my anatomy textbook hahaha. ESFP personality can be soooo frustrating when it comes to deciding on a career because most of the things we're drawn to doing seem "impractical" in this day and age.

I guess this is pretty accurate although some of the things I've grown out of.. But I guess life is a party is correct started reading about another personality type and it seemed pretty depressing so switched right away..:D hehehhe..:D And I definitely have always enjoyed making people happy around me. Joking around a ton..:D Maybe the art thing and decorating thing isn't that strong although I'd say I'm more into music.. I do like to finish things though seems like this personality thing doesn't.. What fitted the most is probably how I can understand peoples emotions all the time and try to help them with it.. That can drive me nuts seeing all this emotions all the time.. Although I've come to the conclusion I definitely need my fair share of talking and fun of the day to feel like keeping up.. If I don't get it I might easily get depressed.. Plus it's interesting about the spontanity I think I definitely have that, just all of a sudden buying things like projectors or deciding to go places.. Although I have to keep it somewhat in order since I don't have all the money in the world..which is wierd but I could always be orderly as well with money and so forth..I'm also very logical and studying to become a fireengineer.. Of course my first choice was fire fighter (goes right along chosing something like that with this personality trait I suppose..:D) And I absolutely love testing new thin gs, and learning new things as well.:D So yeah I'd say it's pretty accurate..:D Interesting about how some traits change in this personality type according to how mature you are.. I would say that's right though I think stuff like being afraid of confrontations and stuff. And I've always been super open to the point where I'm an oversharer definitely. heheh..:D But I seem to forget things easily when they're small that's why I always have keys and such things at the same spot all the time..:D I enjoy being in the center of attention though of course and seems like a lot of actors have this personality, I love acting..:D It's soo fun...:D Maybe that should be my profession, Always been pretty good at it and imitating and stuff..:D But yeah when I got to school this year I had already learned that I need more fun to stay on top of things so I became a swimming teacher on the side it's awesomeness..:D definitely agrees with my personality type heheheh..:D Anyone else out there with the same personality type what's your experience..

I have a friend who is ESFP.... I am an INTP. In a program we did together, we answered questions and then were given our two temperaments. Then we had to partner with someone who was our complete opposite and plan a picnic. We were yelling at each other for the entire thing, and didn't get a single thing done. This just proves that we are opposite; however, we are still good friends and she DEFINITELY knows how to make me laugh!

This myself and my best friends totally. Very interesting. We get along great and have been friends for almost 20 years. We think so much alike but at the same time we are very different. It all balances out in the end and I love her to pieces! :)
