Last week we turned the tables and asked you, our readers, to tell us what personality type you think fits Lady Gaga, a.k.a. Stefani Germanotta. And the response was nothing short of amazing.

  • Many of you guessed that Gaga might be an Adventurer – a type known for their creativity and their willingness to experiment with aesthetics.
  • Others thought that Gaga’s exuberance and interest in uplifting others might fit the Campaigner personality type.
  • And some of you suspected that Lady Gaga is an Advocate, due to her interest in social justice and her vivid inner life.
  • As far as whether Lady Gaga is an Assertive or a Turbulent personality, your responses were split. One reader noted that, even though Gaga is an iconoclast, she’s had to work to find the strength and resolve to be herself.

So what is Lady Gaga’s personality type?

Lady Gaga personality type

Obviously, we can’t know everything about Lady Gaga’s inner life based on what she’s said and done publicly, so we can’t definitively type her from behind our computer screens. That said, we can look at her words and behavior for clues to her personality type, and that’s exactly what we’ve done below.

That said... Lady Gaga, if you’re out there, take our test and let us know the results!

With that in mind, we think Lady Gaga’s personality type is the Turbulent Advocate. Here’s why:

Lady Gaga may be known for her breathtaking performances and eye-catching style, but this doesn’t necessarily make her an Extravert. It’s worth noting that when she rose to fame, she did so not under her own name, but under the persona of Lady Gaga.

She also has mixed feelings about sacrificing her privacy for fame, as many Introverts would. “As soon as I go out into the world,” she has said, “I belong, in a way, to everyone else.” Like many Introverted personalities, she treasures her small but tight-knit inner circle of confidants, noting that, “It’s hard knowing who to trust with your personal life.”

Like many Intuitive personality types, Lady Gaga wants to “crash through the surface” and get at the deeper aspects of life. From “Poker Face” to “Shallow,” much of her music explores the discrepancy between outward appearances and inward realities.

She also thinks a great deal about her legacy and the greater significance of her art – two quintessentially Intuitive concerns: “If you were to ask me what I want to do, I don’t want to be a celebrity, I want to make a difference.”

Lady Gaga, like many Feeling personality types, believes that her art comes from her heart rather than her mind: “You have to go to that broken place of your heart to write songs.”

That said, Gaga fully acknowledges that emotions can be difficult to feel and express – a struggle that Thinking types may relate to. Through the Born This Way Foundation, she has pushed against the social pressure to put emotions “in this compartment with a massive stigma around it that it is just not cool to feel.”

On balance, Lady Gaga appears to be a Feeling personality type, although she certainly seems to empathize with those of us who compartmentalize our emotions.

With the quote, “And now, I’m just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time,” we see that despite Lady Gaga’s broad vision, she’s also quite meticulous. Speaking of sequins, she isn’t just choosing these wild outfits willy-nilly, even if that’s how it might look from the outside. She’s curating an image (and a message) extremely carefully.

Getting closer to her day-to-day life, Gaga shows a thoroughness of a Judging type that other personalities might struggle to match: “I work all day, do research, sketch my ideas, prepare for performances.” She consistently creates and controls the circumstances that lead to her inspiration, whereas Prospecting types are more likely to let inspiration guide their circumstances.

Finally, she says, “Some artists take years; I don’t. I write music every day.” This gets at the heart of that “stick to the plan” attitude that we can expect from a Judging personality type. It shows a willingness to work through the grind of writer’s block and fatigue where others might take a break to clear their heads.

Ever heard the saying, “You teach what you most need to learn”? Lady Gaga’s mission to spread self-love among her fans comes from a very personal place. Part of the reason she developed the persona of Lady Gaga was that she lacked confidence in herself just as she was: “I never felt pretty enough or smart enough or a good enough musician.”

Turbulent personality types may relate to Gaga’s struggle to feel “enough.” They may also understand how it can be easier to encourage others to feel good about themselves than to feel that way ourselves. Fortunately, Gaga has shared that despite her struggles with her self-image, she now feels “good enough” just as she is.

Gaga Oh-Là-Là!

As we’ve explained, we think the Turbulent Advocate personality type best encompasses Lady Gaga’s seemingly contradictory traits: not just her glittering exterior and her ambition, but also her sense of mission and her vulnerable, sensitive inner life.

Gaga is a powerful reminder that you can’t judge a book by its cover – or a person’s type based on how they look. A stereotypical Turbulent Advocate might not wear flamboyant outfits, strut onstage, or seek out the spotlight, yet Lady Gaga has done all of these things. At the same time, she’s steered her life in the direction of her values, advancing her personal missions of LGBT rights, mental health awareness, and support for survivors of sexual assault.

As Lady Gaga reminds us, personality types aren’t some kind of mold that we pour ourselves into. Instead, our type will reflect and grow with us as long as we honor our authentic self – because baby, we were born this way.

So, dear readers, what do you think? Do you agree with our assessment that Lady Gaga is a Turbulent Advocate?
