Sometimes, teamwork can be challenging. Does your team ever struggle with personality differences, communication, motivation, or effectiveness?
That’s why we at 16Personalities created Team Assessments; to help teams understand exactly what’s leading them to waste time, struggle with conflict, or hold back in other ways.
You can inspect your team’s personality makeup, then do a self-directed workshop to explore how your unique mix of personalities shapes your work and culture. And that’s just one of the many team assessments and workshops available to you.
Plus, team members can take individual assessments to help advance their careers, such as communication, ambition, leadership styles, perfectionism, and more.
Many teams use this tool for ongoing team-building, diving deep into one area each month. Others prefer one-off events.
We’ve already helped thousands of businesses of all shapes and sizes, from the largest companies in the world to brand new startups.
There are no minimum contracts and you can stop or resume your subscription at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Purpose and Uses
What happens after I purchase Team Assessments?
After purchasing, you’ll build your team in our online portal by sending your team invites. (It only takes a few minutes.)
Each participating team member completes our personality test if they haven’t already, followed by the team assessment.
From that test, we generate your seven team reports, which are available for both you and your team to review once at least three people have answered all items. As team members join your team, team reports are updated dynamically in real time. Each report comes with an optional team workshop, to dive deeper into your team’s results.
Additionally, team members will have access to 27 individual assessments designed to promote personal growth. These are optional and results stay private to the individual.
You and your team members will also get access to Elina for Teams, your team’s on-demand AI coach. Ask questions about your team’s unique personality mix and get practical, personalized advice to improve communication, collaboration, and performance.
What can Team Assessments be used for?
Team Assessments can be used to get to know your team better and understand how your personalities create a unique blend in a team environment. You’ll discover the strengths and weaknesses of your team as a whole based on the balance represented in your group.
These tools can be used for school, club, and other nonwork groups, as well as by consultants or coaches working with many external teams.
For more information on permitted uses of Team Assessments, please see our Terms & Conditions.
Can I use Team Assessments to assemble a work group, team or task force?
No. Team Assessments are designed to help you understand a team or group that you are already part of, not to assemble an “ideal” team. We discourage using Team Assessments for any personnel decisions.
For example, if you’re on a team with several members of one personality type, you might be tempted to replace a member with someone of a different type. But Team Assessments don’t consider other important factors, such as years and types of experience, education, etc.
Trying to stack your team with one personality type could cause you to miss out on diverse perspectives. While personality is a big part of an individual’s approach to work, it’s not everything.
Can I use Team Assessments for hiring or promotion?
No. Team Assessments should be used to better understand the people on your current team, not to make personnel decisions. Selection assessments used in hiring are built and validated for specific roles through a very different process, and ours are not designed for that purpose.
If it’s useful, we’ve written a short article on why companies should not use our personality test for hiring.
Can I use this for school / clubs / nonwork groups?
Absolutely! This tool was originally designed with workplaces in mind, but other groups will also find it very valuable and informative.
Using Team Assessments
Do team members have to retake the personality test?
No. If you’ve taken our personality test while logged in to the account you’re using now, your results carry over and you won’t need to retake it.
You will still need to complete the team assessment, which is a separate set of questions about your experience working on this particular team.
What is the team assessment, and what is it like?
The team assessment is one test covering all seven team areas, taken in a single sitting. It asks how you work with this particular team: how you prefer to communicate, what motivates you, how you approach problems, and more. It takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
Your team reports appear once at least three people have completed it, and they update as more of your team takes part.
What’s the difference between the personality test and the team assessment?
Team reports draw from two sources of information.
Our personality test is about you. It identifies your individual personality type, which is used to create the Team Personality Profile.
The team assessment is about your experience working with your team. Your answers are used to create the other six team reports, covering different areas of how your team works together.
What are individual assessments, and what are they like?
The 27 individual assessments are designed to help your team members explore their own strengths, weaknesses, goals and values across several areas of life. Topics range from coping styles to optimism to thirst for knowledge. Each team member finds them on their own profile page, and they’re available for as long as the team’s subscription is active.
Results from these assessments are not shared with the team. No one but the individual team member will be able to see the report, and it’s up to them to decide how much, if anything, they’d like to share.
These powerful, research-backed individual assessments are meant to promote personal growth. And in doing so, we believe they’ll bring your team closer to a more purposeful, balanced, and authentic approach to work.
What are workshops, and what are they like?
Workshops are carefully designed to dive deeper into your team reports and start enlightening discussions around those results.
They have a consistent format, with an introduction, then one or two group activities, followed by ample questions for the team to discuss. The designated facilitator also receives helpful notes and scripts to say aloud to the team.
If you choose to cover all of the provided workshop material, you can expect a workshop to take around 2.5 hours, though teams work at different paces. That’s the same whether you meet in person or remotely.
If you are short on time, you can instead choose to select only a few portions from the provided workshop materials. (For example, just one activity and three discussion questions.) Workshops are meant to be extremely flexible – use the workshop materials as much or as little as you would like.
Workshop facilitators can find more information about how to conduct workshops in the Facilitator Guide.
What is the time commitment?
Taking the tests is quick. Each team member takes our personality test and one team assessment covering all seven team areas in a single sitting. That takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
Workshops are the bigger commitment, and they’re where you choose your own pace. There are eight workshops, each taking around 2.5 hours, and it’s up to you which ones you run and when. Some teams work through several in a single day as a bootcamp. Others schedule one a month, or run a single workshop as a one-off and come back to the rest whenever it suits them.
What does the team leader or facilitator need to do?
The team leader is responsible for sending out team invites in order to build their team in our online portal (it only takes a few minutes). In some cases, they may also need to follow up with team members to remind them to take our personality test or the team assessment.
Otherwise, their level of involvement is up to them. They can choose to facilitate the workshops as their team runs through them to better understand their team reports – or they can appoint a separate facilitator for this.
Either way, we provide a comprehensive Facilitator Guide to ensure the facilitator feels fully prepared to use these tools with their team. It includes instructions on administering the team assessment and facilitating the workshops, but you can choose how much or little of our guidance to follow.
We do not offer facilitator services.
How can the team leader observe passively at no cost?
As team leader, you can be a passive observer. You’ll receive the team reports without taking the team assessment and will not be charged.
This option works well for team leaders who are external coaches/consultants or assistants who manage billing but aren’t part of the team proper. If you’re wondering if this option is right for you, please contact us. We’re here to help!
Billing
How secure is your checkout process?
Very secure. Our site uses the HTTPS protocol (you can verify that by clicking on the padlock in the address bar), which means that all data sent to our server goes through a secure and encrypted channel. We don’t record any of your card details – they are encrypted and sent directly to the payment processor.
Why do I need a subscription?
There is a lot of value in retaking the team assessment on a regular basis, especially as your team grows and matures. How is your motivation changing? What about team culture? What personality interactions are happening between old and new members? If you’re looking for a long-term view of team dynamics, staying subscribed for longer is well worth the cost.
You can retake the team assessment as often as you like, though it’s worth leaving enough time between attempts for your team to actually change. Dynamics rarely shift week to week, but they could across a few months.
That said, the decision to stay subscribed is up to you. If you only need Team Assessments for a single event, simply turn off the renewal via the Purchases page.
Can I add and remove seats?
Yes. Whoever manages the team’s subscription can add or remove seats at any time, and changes take effect immediately.
How can I request a refund?
You can request a refund by emailing us at support@16personalities.com within 14 days of your purchase or most recent payment.
Refunds aren’t available if you’ve used Team Assessments since that payment, or if the charge was made more than 14 days ago.
How can I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription in the Purchases page by clicking “Manage subscription”. Your team keeps access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. If you need assistance, you can contact us at support@16personalities.com.
